The story behind Chronicle Your Life Story is really a part of my own life story.
My father was a wonderful storyteller and teacher. For years, my siblings and I had talked about wanting to film him as he told his story. However, as happens with so many families, our busy schedules and the demands of our own lives interfered with the best of our intentions, and we never got around to having that film created. When my father died I felt such a tremendous sense of loss--for him of course--but also for having missed the opportunity to create a record of his person to pass on to my own children and future generations.
It was then that I decided to devote my (second) career to working with others who wish to preserve their families' stories, but like my own family, need help the process. Needless to say, I also immediately created a film of my mother telling her story, which she and the rest of my family now cherish!
My first career was as a clinical psychologist. After receiving my doctorate in psychology from Northwestern University, I maintained a private practice for 20 years. During that time, I also was adjunct faculty at The Ohio State University, where I supervised doctoral students in their clinical work, and Otterbein College, where I taught courses on Adult Development and Aging. I have published in both professional journals and the popular press.
Note that although the process of chronicling one's life story may have therapeutic value, Chronicle Your Life Story is not a form of
psychological counseling or psychotherapy.
